Review
“The Alpha Female's Guide to Men & Marriage is a smart and provocative book for women who've been raised to be independent at all costs or to be resentful of men and marriage. Using her own story as a model, Suzanne Venker shows how a simple shift in attitude is all women need to find peace with the men in their lives. If you're a woman who feels successful in life but unsuccessful in love, look no further. The Alpha Female's Guide to Men & Marriage is your answer!” (Susan Page, relationship expert and author of How One of You Can Bring the Two of You Together)“Suzanne Venker presents a refreshing guide to a happy marriage. While she takes aim at alpha females, the untold secret is that this book is for all women. She's lived it. She's studied it. And the insights and advice she gives will save many marriages. I love her passion for marriage, and so will you.” (Dr. Scott Haltzman, Distinguished Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, and author of The Secrets of Happily Married Women)“In The Alpha Female’s Guide to Men and Marriage, Suzanne Venker shows that being an alpha female doesn’t need to interfere with love and harmony.” (Shawn T. Smith, Psy.D., author of The Practical Guide to Men)“Suzanne Venker tells women how to be a full partner at home rather than the boss—and how to possibly save their marriages. Lively and sensible. A fun read.” (John Townsend, Professor of Anthropology and author of What Women Want―What Men Want)

If you’re here, looking at this book and reading the reviews, then you absolutely must read this book. I have never felt so strongly about the content of a book that I bought copies for my mom, sister, and best friends, but with this one I had to buy extra copies to give those people. There is so much wisdom in this book that it is an essential read, especially in our culture today. I often borrow library books to read and return, but I promise you this is one you will want to own so that you can take notes and reference again and again. One last piece of advice? Bump this one to the top of your reading list! It’s a life changer.
I have lived this 'nightmare' experience for 4 years and could not have put my feelings in better words than this. No amount of asking, begging or pleading has made a jot of difference to my relationship, the bullying and control just never ended. I wholeheartedly agree, we men exist to serve and please our partners, nothing is more satisfying than being able to make a woman happy and treat her like the magnificent creation that she is, but all we ask in return is the respect, companionship and intimacy our souls crave in return. This book is liberating and profound, it is awe inspiring that such honesty about women can be written by a woman. Had a man written this book, the reaction would have been quite toxic but coming from the heart of woman, this publication is quite remarkable. I have witnessed relationships that are founded on these principles and they are beautiful to behold.
Welcome to a book that tells you what your grandmother (or great..great great) would have: don't argue, don't ask, and always be a nice girl. Overall, this book tries to convince the alpha woman to fake it and act like a beta; it also treats stronger women as some kind of a disease, that need to be "treated" in order to not "offend their man". It goes as far as to sustain that all men want to please their wives - by this statement, she puts the whole blame for the failure of marriages on women. She portrays men as these lovely, misunderstood angels. The book does make a decent point about how there can be fairness without equality in a relationship - that two people don't need to do the exact same thing to be equals. However, sadly, there is no room in this book for a dynamic different than a house wife and a working husband. If you manage to get over this without too much offense, there are some good examples about how to expect less, nag less and respect more.If you're a woman with a career that works 40 hours + a week, this book will leave you thinking what's wrong with you - just for a second, after which you realize it's polarized, narrow minded BS. If you think women AND MEN need to learn how to be happy in a marriage, then this book is NOT for you . This book IS for you if you want to learn how to be a dutiful American wife, in a very traditional way.
Loved this book. Not easy to read, you have to be mature enough to absorb it. But if you do it is extremely helpful. Love the tone, very funny. Read it if you tell your husband what to do and wonder why your marriage isn’t going well!...
As a man, this book really explained a lot to me. It didn't do much tell the reader EXACTLY what to do, but gave a better understanding of the male brain and how to interact with it. Men are pretty simple. This book shows you how to navigate our simplicity!
I am recently divorced, my ex said I was an alpha. I am actually not but this book gave me new strategies and thoughts to implement in any new relationship that I begin. Every woman should read this book... alpha or not.
As a couples therapist I was really hoping to find this book helpful. Unfortunately, it lacked depth and was full of personal beliefs and stories. I would not suggest it.
This book was an interesting read that gave me much food for thought. I think the points Ms. Venker makes ring true, and I appreciate the "big picture" stance she takes throughout. Never does she come across as "preachy". As someone with a history of being married more than once, I definitely recognized myself in her description of how women in my generation, raised during the feminist era, are infused with an outlook that brings problems into their relationships with men. I am presently unmarried in a monogamous relationship, and I found that much of her material still applies to my situation. I made numerous notes in the margins and highlighted many passages that stood out for me. I plan on re-reading this book soon. This was a very worthwhile purchase.
